About

Formed in 2017 when the Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance and the Maine Lakes Resource Center merged forces, 7 Lakes Alliance works to conserve the lands, waters, and natural heritage of the Belgrade Lakes region in partnership with Colby College. The organization's visitor center in Belgrade Lakes village serves as a hub for community education, volunteer coordination, and public engagement with the watershed. Seven public trails across the Kennebec Highlands provide hiking and birding opportunities for all skill levels, and the organization runs a Youth Conservation Corps that engages young people in hands-on stewardship work. Year-round lake science initiatives monitor water quality, track invasive aquatic plants, and conduct erosion control work, offering a real-world lens on environmental science for students and families interested in ecology. More than 9,400 acres of land in the Belgrade Lakes region are permanently protected under the organization's land trust β€” all of it accessible to the public for walking, birding, and nature study. The visitor center and trails are free to access. Winter office hours run Tuesday through Friday, 9 am–5 pm; summer programming hours vary.
