Kamin Science Center
About
Kamin Science Center, located on Pittsburgh's North Shore at the confluence of the Allegheny and Ohio rivers, is the most-visited museum in western Pennsylvania. Originally opened as Carnegie Science Center in 1991, it is one of the Four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh and offers immersive, hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for visitors of all ages. The center's signature feature is the USS Requin, a WWII-era submarine docked outside the building that visitors can tour from stem to stern — exploring the tight quarters of cold-war-era naval life. Inside, the Rangos Giant Cinema screens science-focused films on a four-story screen with surround sound, and the Buhl Planetarium hosts astronomy programs and laser light shows in its full-dome theater. Hundreds of interactive exhibits invite visitors to engage directly with physics, chemistry, biology, robotics, space science, and engineering. Permanent galleries and rotating special exhibitions cover topics from the human body to sports science to the natural world. The museum also hosts a range of adult evening events and family programs throughout the year. Science on the Road brings museum educators directly into classrooms across western Pennsylvania, extending the center's educational reach well beyond Pittsburgh. Field trip programs align with school curriculum standards from kindergarten through high school, and professional development resources are available for educators. The museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm.
