New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science

Albuquerque, New Mexico

About

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is the state's premier natural history institution, located in the heart of Old Town Albuquerque adjacent to the historic plaza. A division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, the museum offers a deep exploration of the natural world with particular strength in regional paleontology and geology. The Bradbury Stamm Hall of Ancient Life presents a comprehensive survey of life on Earth, with standout exhibits on the Triassic-era transition and the remarkable dinosaur fauna of New Mexico. Alamosaurus โ€” one of the largest dinosaurs known from North America โ€” anchors a gallery that reflects the museum's long history of fieldwork in the state. The recently renovated Fossilworks exhibit gives visitors a window into active fossil preparation. The Naturalist Center offers hands-on exploration of specimens and natural objects, while the New Mexico Seaways exhibit depicts the inland seas that once covered the region. The museum's DynaTheater provides large-format film experiences on natural history and science themes, and the Planetarium โ€” powered by advanced projection technology โ€” offers star shows and astronomy programming for all ages. Recent renovations have refreshed several halls, and the museum's Alamosaurus exhibit was a much-anticipated reopening. As a state-funded institution, admission is priced accessibly compared to many peer museums, and school groups from across New Mexico visit regularly. The museum sits within easy walking distance of other Old Town cultural institutions, making it a natural anchor for a full day of exploration in historic Albuquerque.
