About

The Maine Maritime Museum occupies the grounds of the Percy and Small Shipyard โ€” one of the last surviving wooden shipbuilding yards in the United States โ€” in Bath, the Shipbuilding Capital of the World. Working craftspeople demonstrate blacksmithing, watercraft restoration, and traditional boatbuilding trades in the historic shipyard buildings. The museum's galleries explore the full sweep of Maine's maritime identity, from small-boat fishing culture to the era of great wooden schooners. Naturalist-led cruises on the Kennebec River bring the living river into the experience, and the museum's collections include paintings, tools, ship models, and navigational instruments spanning centuries.
