Georgia Aquarium
About
Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta is among the largest aquariums in the world, housing more than ten million gallons of water and tens of thousands of animals spanning hundreds of species. Opened in 2005 as a gift to the city of Atlanta, the aquarium has grown into one of the region's premier science education and conservation institutions. The aquarium's centerpiece is Ocean Voyager, home to whale sharksβthe world's largest fishβalongside manta rays, grouper, and thousands of other species in a single 6.3-million-gallon habitat. Other major galleries include Dolphin Coast (bottlenose dolphins), Cold Water Quest (beluga whales, sea otters), Truist Sea Lion Studios, and the new SHARKS! Predators of the Deep exhibition. Georgia Aquarium offers a robust suite of education programs. The Homeschool Program, "Tuesdays in the Field," provides homeschooling families with behind-the-scenes access, guided curriculum activities, and unique animal encounters not available during general admission. Camp H2O provides multi-day summer camp experiences, and field trips with facilitated programs are available for schools. The aquarium conducts active research on whale sharks, beluga whales, African penguins, manta rays, and coral, contributing to international conservation efforts. Georgia Aquarium is accredited by AZA, AMMPA, and IMATA, and is certified by American Humane.
