Oakland Zoo
About
Oakland Zoo is operated by the Conservation Society of California and sits within the 525-acre Knowland Park in the hills of East Oakland. The zoo is home to over 850 animals, with particular emphasis on California native species including grizzly bears, black bears, mountain lions, condors, and bison on the California Trailβa dedicated habitat showcasing the state's indigenous wildlife. The zoo is deeply committed to wildlife conservation and sustainability, running programs that protect species and habitats both locally and around the world. Guests can explore multiple habitat areas, ride the scenic gondola to the upper zoo, and visit the on-site Veterinary Hospital, which offers behind-the-scenes tours on select days. Oakland Zoo offers extensive education programs for all ages. ZooSchool brings Kβ12 classrooms to the zoo for curriculum-aligned field experiences, while ZooMobile delivers live animal programs to schools and community centers. ZooCamp runs seasonal day camps for children in preschool through 8th grade, and Wildlife Assemblies bring conservation presentations to schools throughout the Bay Area. Admission uses a dynamic Plan-Ahead Pricing systemβtickets are cheaper when purchased further in advance. Advanced reservations are required for all general admission visits.
