Cincinnati Museum Center
About
Cincinnati Museum Center occupies one of America's most magnificent public buildings—the Cincinnati Union Terminal, a grand art deco train station completed in 1933 and featuring one of the largest half-dome structures in the Western hemisphere. After a major $212 million restoration completed in 2018, the building's gleaming mosaics, travertine floors, and soaring lobby have been returned to their original splendor. The complex is a National Historic Landmark. The museum center houses several distinct institutions: the Cincinnati History Museum, exploring the Queen City's story from frontier trading post to modern metropolis; the Museum of Natural History & Science, featuring a full-scale cave replica, a live colony of honeybees, and Ice Age megafauna; The Children's Museum, with eight themed play areas for families with young children; and the Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX® Theater, one of the largest in the country. The Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center rounds out the complex with a powerful memorial and education center. The museum's edge-of-Appalachia nature preserve—the Richard & Lucile Durrell Edge of Appalachia Preserve—adds a field science dimension to its programming, providing outdoor learning experiences tied to the region's extraordinary biodiversity. Education resources are extensive: homeschool programs, field trips, virtual programs, classroom outreach (Programs-on-Wheels), STEM Girls camps, and educator professional development. The museum participates in the ASTC Passport Program (90-mile exclusion zone applies) and offers Museums for All reduced admission for EBT/SNAP/Medicaid cardholders.
