New York Hall of Science
About
The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) is the city's primary hands-on science center, housed in a dramatic Googie-influenced building constructed for the 1964 World's Fair in Flushing MeadowsβCorona Park in Queens. The building itself β a swooping concrete structure with stained glass β is a New York City landmark, and it provides an architectural context that underscores the museum's commitment to bringing science and art into conversation. The museum's 450+ interactive exhibits engage visitors in direct experimentation across biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and technology. Rather than presenting science as a finished body of knowledge, NYSCI's pedagogy emphasizes the processes of scientific inquiry β observation, hypothesis, experiment, and iteration. The award-winning Science Playground outside offers physical experiences with forces, motion, and simple machines at an outdoor scale. Designed 2 Play is an exhibit focused on early childhood STEM learning, while the Connected Worlds installation uses floor-to-ceiling projection to create an immersive environmental simulation that responds to visitor interactions β a technologically sophisticated exploration of ecological relationships. Maker Space programming introduces visitors to design thinking and digital fabrication. As both an ASTC Travel Passport Program and ACM Reciprocal Network member, NYSCI offers reciprocal admission benefits to qualifying members of participating institutions. The museum provides free community hours on Fridays from 2β5 p.m. for local families.
